On Wednesday 16th August 2023, asbestos victims and anti-asbestos campaigners from across the country gathered to demand Altrad donate £10 million to mesothelioma research.

Mesothelioma is an under-researched cancer caused by asbestos. Altrad are the parent company of Cape, a major asbestos manufacturer in the 1960s and 1970s. Recently published documents reveal that Cape hid the true dangers of its asbestos products. Had Cape revealed what they knew, safety regulations would have been made much tougher, and a ban on asbestos would have been brought in much sooner. Cape hid the truth, and many died as a result.

A £10 million donation to mesothelioma research now would put right some of the wrong Cape did. It would given hope to the thousands of people in the UK living with asbestos disease, and the thousands who will inevitably be diagnosed in the future.
